History

In the summer of 2013, through the Long Term Care Coordinating Council (LTCCC), The Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia was approached to look at how we can pool community resources to help serve more older adults in need of volunteer driver transportation to medical appointments, grocery shopping and social visits, so that they can remain independent in their home and stay active in their community.                                                                            Art 1 ed

A group of leaders from community based organizations, Fairfax County and foundations came together to brainstorm how to solve this emerging transportation need for older adults in our community.  More than 30 community organizations were engaged to learn about, and provide input for the program. In October 2014 “NV Rides” was born.

How it works

NV Rides supports a network of service providers aiming to enhance and improve volunteer assisted transportation throughout Northern Virginia. This community-wide initiative aims to serve more non-driving older adults so that they can get where they need to go at no or little cost. Having accessible and dependable transportation readily available will help our community’s older adults remain independent, and ensure that they can age in place for as long as possible.

Partner organizations joining NV Rides receive the following at no cost:

  • Ride Scheduling Software
  • Tech Support
  • Marketing Support
  • Volunteer Coordinator Support
  • Volunteer Background Checks
